North Carolina Child Care Health Consultant Training Course

Background: The North Carolina Child Care Health Consultant Training Course is a cooperative undertaking of the NC Division of Public Health and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, School of Public Health.

Purpose: The NC Child Care Health Consultant Training Course prepares health professionals to fulfill their role as child care health consultants (CCHCs) in North Carolina. Course Description: The NC Child Care Health Consultant Training Course consists of 4 parts. Each Part is divided into Modules that cover specific information and provide learning activities for the participants.

  • Part 1 provides information about child care; what type of child care is available, how much it is utilized, how it is supported, how it is regulated, what the health issues are, and how the health system in North Carolina supports child care.
  • Part 2 provides information and activities designed to strengthen participants' knowledge and skills in consultation, evaluation, and training.
  • Part 3 provides the information consultants need to support the child care community in its endeavors to provide a healthy environment for children, families, and child care providers. Topics include safe environments, nutrition, and developmentally appropriate health assessments.
