Topic Description:
A highly contagious bacterial respiratory infection, which begins with cold-like symptoms and a cough and becomes progressively more severe, so that the person may experience vomiting, sweating, and exhaustion with the cough. Some older children and adults "whoop" during coughing spells. Infants will instead stop breathing and turn blue.
