Topic Description:
Meningitis is a swelling or inflammation of the tissue covering the spinal cord and brain. Meningitis is usually caused by a bacterial or viral infection. Meningococcal disease is caused by the bacterium Neisseria meningitidis and can result in pneumonia, arthritis, meningitis, or blood infection.
